Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar is a full-fledged Senior Secondary School (std. I - XII) affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi.  It is a part of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a group of India's premier educational institutions.

Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar was founded in 1977 in 1.7 acres of land donated by the Cochin Shipyard in the Heart of Kochi City.  The student strength of the school is 1519 (1998-99) while the teachers and non-teaching staff are about 70 in number.

Under the able leadership of our principal, Smt. N. Vijayalakshmi and vice-principal Smt. Joyce Mathew, this school has made its mark in all fields-academic and non-academic.

A new system of teaching without textbooks is followed in std. I and II.  This system has enabled students to learn at their own pace, making their learning, a joyous experience.  Year after year, the school records excellent performance in the Board Exams for std. X and std. XII.  A lot of importance is also given to various scholarship examinations for all classes.

In keeping with the objective of fostering the special talents and skills of the students, sufficient oppurtunities are provided for the students to participate in co-curricular activites, both at school and outside.  For the same reason, the school hosts "Magnum Opus", an interschool cultural fest for CBSE schools all over Kerala, every year.  The fact that the school has won the All Kerala CBSE School Youth Festival Ever Rolling Trophy both times after it was instituted in 1997, requires special mention.  The young sportstars have also won a number of titles and trophies in the field of sports and games.

The Programme of Educational and Cultural Exchange(PEACE)  is something every member of this institution is proud of.  The student exchange programme with the Tunbridge Wells Grammar School have proved to be a great success with 2 teams of English studetns visiting the school in 1996 and 1998 and one of our teams visiting England in 1997.

Thus the institution sails on, braving seas of challenges, doing its best in every field and anchoring on hope, faith, service and life.
